PLANNING PERMISSION SECURED FOR WAREHOUSE IN NEEDINGWORTH

Barford + Co, the St Neots based firm of Chartered Surveyors and Planning Consultants, has successfully secured planning permission for a warehouse building with an office and open storage on land south of the A1123 and north of the Needingworth Industrial Estate on behalf of Burgess & Walker Transport Ltd and Arena Structures Ltd.

Arena Structures Ltd has been based in St Ives for more than 25 years providing marquee structures for corporate events and over the past four to five years has been looking for a site to enable the relocation of Arena Seating from Berkshire, but has not been able to identify a suitable available site or building. The company’s transport services are provided by Burgess & Walker Transport Ltd based on the Needingworth Industrial Estate.

As a result, Barford + Co was retained by Burgess & Walker and Arena Structures to provide advice on and secure planning permission for a building with open storage to meet the needs of the business. Following a successful outline application approved in April, a further larger and detailed scheme for a 40,673 sq ft warehouse building and 10,000 sq ft office, together with six acres of open storage, was approved recently by the Huntingdonshire District Council Development Management Panel.

Martin Page, Planning Director for Barford + Co, commented: “Although the site is not allocated for development in the Council’s current or emerging Local Plans we were able to demonstrate there were no technical issues to prevent the development and there is a lack of available alternative sites able to meet the business’needs. With the support of the local Parish and Town Councils, the District Council’s stance has reflected national planning policy encouraging economic growth and this has achieved a positive outcome. Currently archaeology investigations are ongoing with construction work programmed to follow shortly.”
